Chapter 283: Meet my partner [1]
Chapter 283: Meet my partner [1]
I silently observed the girl in my arms, as she had begun to cry in quite a dramatic manner.
"Sniff... sorry for everything. I—"
"It’s alright."
My words seemed to have calmed down Alicia, as her sobbing had noticeably reduced.
Letting the person in question speak everything could lead to the reduction of the guilt in their heart.
And that would reduce the advantage that I could derive from her.
Looking at Alicia, she had once again tightened her hold over me.
One of my hands was currently patting Alicia’s head, while the other one had wrapped itself around her back.
Feeling the girl up close, I couldn’t help but be curious about her small frame.
From a distance, Alicia looked to be around 5’5, but her body... it was far smaller than her actual appearance.
Or was this just my way of evaluation?
I could see Diana smirking from behind as if she had done some favour for me.
Sigh.
Though I hadn’t asked for her help, there was no way I could devalue the efforts that Diana had put in.
Bringing Alicia to such a level would have required me to be far more open and friendly with her... something that was against how I normally behaved.
Then there was also the matter of principles for me.
I would never lower myself to build relations with the blood of the Frosts.
I would have done everything in a calculated manner, but that would have resulted in an increase in the time required to achieve the desired objectives.
Diana... maybe I had invested in the right person.
Or at least those were my thoughts in the present, and maybe I could have been wrong about them.
But looking at this current version of Diana, she... this girl was proving to be more valuable than before.
Alicia was still holding me, and I didn’t plan to push her away.
The silence ensued further, with Diana staying at her place and not interfering in any way.
Haa...
I was skeptical of this girl asking me to do something outrageous again.
Patting Alicia’s head itself was crossing all the boundaries of my actions, though I had quickly adapted to the task.
It wasn’t like it was a difficult thing to do.
"Aren’t you hungry?"
It wasn’t me but Diana who spoke the words.
I simply looked at her without speaking a word, though I felt a movement near my body.
Seeing Alicia wanting to end the hug, I slowly let go of her while taking a step back.
Alicia’s face was now covered with dried tears, as she wiped the ones that were still streaming down her face.
"Should we go to the cafeteria?"
Diana walked closer to Alicia while whispering in her ear, though I was able to perfectly hear her voice.
Alicia simply nodded her head while wiping off the tears from her face.
"Let’s go then."
Saying the words, I began to move in the direction of the cafeteria.
I could sense Diana and Alicia quietly following along.
"Whose lecture was it?"
I asked while slightly turning around to look at Alicia, who for some reason avoided my gaze.
"M-Miss Elsa."
This...
If only my luck could have been better.
Elsa Senor had always been known for her strictness with regard to attendance.
Missing her class without a decent reason—
Haa...
Though the consequences would be a little unfavourable for me, I could still manage them.
The only difference was that I would have to cover for both of them too.
"She is a strict one, isn’t she? Would you be okay?"
As if wanting to rub the fact in, Diana slowly spoke from behind.
"I will."
Saying the words, I increased my pace a little while thinking of a reasonable excuse to give to the instructor.
Moving through the hallway, some students could be seen... mainly the seniors who had free time at their disposal.
After walking for quite some time, we had reached the cafeteria.
The seniors, as usual, had occupied the area, with many discussing things amongst themselves while having some snacks at the same time.
The view was strangely peaceful.
As none of the students here were known to me—
"Kael?"
Hm?
Ashlyn stood at the counter along with her assistant Ana, as they were ordering their own share of food.
"Don’t you have a class to attend?"
Haa...
It wasn’t Ashlyn but her assistant who spoke while giving me a curious look.
The specific description would be that Ana was curious about the people who were standing beside me.
"You may ignore her."
Ashlyn’s comment earned her a glare from Ana, though the latter didn’t speak a word in response.
"It’s nice to meet you, Princess Diana."
Walking closer to us, Ashlyn gave a formal greeting to Diana—
"The pleasure is mine."
And Diana replied with a greeting of her own.
Haa...
Nobles sure had theatrics of their own.
"It’s nice to meet you, Miss Alicia."
After greeting Diana, Ashlyn shifted her eyes to look at Alicia, who silently stood at the side.
"Just Alicia is fine."
Alicia replied while giving a greeting of her own.
Ana, on the other hand, bowed her head towards Diana without saying a word.
Maybe it was how things were done at her house.
"Should we eat together?"
Seeing that the formalities were over, Ashlyn asked the question in general, though her eyes were fixed on me.
"Sure."
I, on my part, had no problem with the arrangement.
Moving to the counter, I ordered the necessary food for the three of us, while Diana and Alicia made some small talk with Ashlyn.
We waited for a minute as our order was quickly prepared before taking the plates in our own hands.
"Let’s sit there."
Pointing towards the table at the far end of the cafeteria, which was just beside the corner of the hall, I began to move in its direction.
My words left no room for negotiation, as the others followed soon after.
